Total Burnout

3/30/2015
Two words: velvet burnout. Since I was a little tyke, I've been infatuated with velvet. Velvet scrunchies, velvet shirts, velvet figure skating dresses, you name it - I had it! So the velvet re-incarnation movement of 2015 has my full blessing and attention.

If you haven't yet heard of For Love & Lemons, where have you been!? The coolest new kid on the fashion block has jet-set to one of my top favourite brands. Just ask mega-babe Payton from Hustle + Halycon, girlfriend is lucky enough to be interning for FLAL (ENVIOUS) in Los Angeles and knows what's up.

City Slip

3/25/2015
Amidst the bankers and business professionals of Bay Street, here's me in my little Free People lace slip dress. Business blazers and slacks actually give me anxiety - SO not my thing. Also, it's about time for me to wear something besides black (good riddance, Canadian winter).

One of my favourite perks of blogging since I launched Boho Nouveau is being able to connect with other like-minded bloggers all across the globe. I love reading your stories and sharing inspiration with beautiful, powerful young people. Here's to continuing this adventure together! Recently, I've teamed up with Boathouse Stores again to introduce their new BHUE Campaign. Boathouse BHUE wants you to share your story!

A girl can never have too many bikinis if you ask me. Which is why I'm so excited to tell you about a new swimwear line by Boathouse Stores coming this spring/summer. Introducing Skinny Dip swimwear! *Confession: I've never actually been skinny dipping, but it's on my list. This is my BHUE. Thank you Boathouse for this complimentary swimsuit. Opinions are my own!

I'm a road-trip lover through and through. It may sound cliche, but there's truly nothing like the freedom of the open road! My love for Cali is also no secret. Which is why this suit has me swooning! Printed with polaroids of the open road and Coachella, I'm in love with the Roadtrip String Back one-piece. A summer festival essential! What summer must-do's are on your list?

Spring Skirt

3/08/2015
Part of the fun of being a style blogger is the challenge of putting together outfits with hard-to-wear pieces. Every girl has that one thing in her closet she bought on a whim, but might still be hanging with their tags unworn. Given the opportunity to work with Sheinside again, I chose a piece outside my personal comfort zone to show how easy it is to incorporate an unfamiliar piece into an outfit you're comfortable with. This skirt was provided complimentary from Sheinside, though opinions are all my own.

For me, I tend to avoid overly girly and preppy pieces. I'm not a pink girl by any means! Even so, this rose printed flare skirt was super cute and I wanted to show off its versatility.

To tone down the overall girly-ness this skirt could easily add to an outfit, I needed to add some anti-girly: black! Even better, a touch of badass (leather) definitely contrasts with the pink floral print and cut of the skirt.

Fringe Necklace from Free People (SOLD OUT but similar HERE and HERE)

Samaná, Dominican Republic

3/04/2015
Hi hi hi! For the first time in forever! Please excuse my sporadic blogging habits for the past little while - it has been a consistent -20 degrees since the end of January which makes it literally painful to take any outfit shots outdoors.

Which is why (if you follow me on Instagram you probably realize) I was SO. HAPPY. to getaway last week to the Dominican Republic. My friends and I scored an amazing last minute deal to the Bahia Principe Resort in El Portillo in Samaná Province. Most Dominican-goers usually stick to the popular tourist destinations of Puerto Plata or Punta Cana, which is why I was so much more stoked to be headed to a more remote, untouched part of the island in Samaná.

Samaná Must Do #1: Ride Horseback to El Limon Falls

I definitely definitely recommend visiting El Limon Falls if you're staying in Samana province. Although you can probably get there a number of ways, we went horseback (which was super convenient as there are a number of hills and muddy or unstable grounds).

Riding horses led by locals to get to the falls

Finally, after dismounting you have to hike down a steep path with what seems like 500 steps. But in the end, it leads to this:

Samaná Must Do #2: Visit Playa Rincón Beach
Arguably one of the top-ten rated beaches in the world, being the avid beach-lover I am I knew I had to visit. Playa Rincón did not disappoint! Off the beaten path, the beach boasts a 3km long stretch of white sand which somehow is virtually untouched by commercialism - the only thing you'll find are two tiny "restaurants" (thatched huts where locals cook you either the fresh catch of the day or, if you're timid chicken and fries) and a tiny coconut stand that serves the best piña coladas you'll ever find, coco locos or cold El Presidente beer.

Keep walking right and you'll find Playa Rincón opens up around the bend to entirely different beach but with equally beautiful scenery - much rougher waters for swimmers, but breathtaking, nonetheless.

In short, it was a perfect week full of sunshine, neoprene bikinis, my trustee GoPro (and selfie stick I am NOT afraid to use) and way too much food. If you're looking into travelling to the Dominican Republic in search of a little more authenticity, hit up Samaná. Untouched beauty like it is becoming a rare find!
