Empire State of Mind

7/21/2014
You can ask anyone I travel with, like my girl friend Mash of Mash-elle Blog - I have a bit of a traveller's weather curse. Any time I fly down to Florida and it's predicted to be sunny, it ends up pouring. In Cancun, it thunder stormed 3 out of our 5 days there, and it actually RAINED Day One of Coachella in the desert. It never rains in the Coachella desert!

Which is why when I arrived in Manhattan, armed with an umbrella and plenty of rain gear due to past experience, I was shocked we had a week of cloudless skies and perfect New York weather. Is my luck changing?!

Rachel and I decided to go to the top of the Rockefeller Centre late enough to catch the sunset and be able to stay to see the skyline after dark. But I absolutely did not expect THIS view - the air was crystal clear with not a trace of hazy smog.

I purchased this baby polka dot romper from Urban Outfitters. Basically, obsessed. The silky material is so light and I love the flutter hem on the shorts.

The perfect view of Central Park

THIS.

Lately I'm also loving these large silver coin statement necklaces. This one from H&M is now sold out, but see a similar one HERE.

You know those moments that literally take your breath away? Well this was one of those for me. On our last night in New York, Rachel and I cabbed across the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Bridge Park to catch the sunset. We made it just in time for the most beautiful sunset, with the twinkling skyline of Manhattan dotting the horizon. There's something about the big city that just captivates.

We explored the Brooklyn waterfront for a bit before walking the bridge back to Manhattan, which is when I fell in love with Brooklyn. The cute shops and cafes along the water really made me wish we had more time in the city.

I tried to keep some sense of the modern bohemian. This off-shoulder top from Necessary Clothing is one of my summer favourites, paired with a Luna Boutique zip maxi skirt with one thigh-high slit.

BHNV x Boathouse

Last week, I had the honour of getting an exclusive preview of the Fall 2014 apparel coming to Boathouse stores. Boathouse is a Canadian active lifestyle apparel shop, and has always been one of my go-to stores for both athletic and everyday casual clothing, accessories, and shoes.

While most of the apparel is not yet available for sale in Boathouse stores, I was given the privilege to browse through the upcoming collection and style my favourite pieces. Fall is my favourite season for fashion posts, from the layering to cozy knits, patterns to boots. Though it's still mid-summer here in Toronto, the Fall collection from Boathouse has me excited to start shopping for cooler weather.

Outfit #1

I was instantly drawn to the golden yellow colour of this Rebel Rogue tartan button-up. Worn over a Rebel Rogue simple black skater dress, I paired the outfit with a black and gold Nixon watch and DLG combat boots for a real "Nirvana grunge" type feel. This outfit is perfect for back-to-school colder weather. Smells like teen spirit!

Outfit #2

I don't think it comes a surprise to any of my readers that as soon as I saw the elephant tribal pattern on this cropped sweater, I knew it would be part of my next outfit. Since my trip to Thailand in the winter, I have loved anything and everything elephant-related. This black and white Parade Crop Crewneck by Element is a perfect transition piece from summer to fall, while still keeping the hot heat of Thailand on my mind. Paired with dark denim jeggings by Harlow, the same black and gold Kensington watch by Nixon, and DLG boots.

Flipping through the hangers trying to narrow down my favourite items was nearly an impossible task. My head was in the clouds perusing the soft knits, layering tanks, aztec patterns, and tartan, tartan, tartan. Having the exclusive privilege of viewing and styling my favourites, I can definitely say my fellow Canadians should be excited for the Fall 2014 apparel, shoes, and accessories coming to Boathouse stores. Be sure to stay up to date with Boho Nouveau for a second upcoming Boathouse post with two more of my favourite outfits!

The Day We Met

7/04/2014
Walking up the steps of The Metropolitan Art Museum in New York feels like so much more than walking up any ordinary steps. While I could spend a month browsing the incredible artistic works within, the iconic museum of art's exterior alone could tell a story. I envision scenes from classic films, Audrey Hepburn walking the same steps, to modern day Blair Waldof perched with her high society friends. Not to mention, the prestigious annual Met Gala hosting the world's most fashionable icons.

My sister and I decided to play Gossip Girl for the day. After walking Central Park, we arrived at The Met in the late afternoon, then wandered over to gawk at Nate Archibald's townhouse off 5th Avenue.

If only I was as fashionable at 16 years old...

The Met just calls for red lipstick! I'm wearing the "Icon" lip stain, super versatile for all skin tones (and how fitting for the occasion, right?) Seriously, it's amazing, with almost zero transfer once dry. However take note, once it's on, you're committed! Trying to remove without a good make-up remover will only result in a weird smudged-stained lip, trust me! Purchase it HERE. Rachel's more coral-tinted red lip is by Urban Outfitters. Purchase it HERE.

To complete the look, I paired with my loved Audrey sunnies - yes, named after the infamous Audrey Hepburn style sunglasses. Such an old Hollywood look I absolutely love! Shop Rachel and my outfits below.
